dr. pat DURONIO

Dr. Pasquale (Pat) Duronio is a graduate of the Western University Faculty of Dentistry. For most of his career, he practiced in Windsor, Ontario becoming the first Italian-speaking dentist in a city of approximately 20,000 Italians.

While in Windsor, Dr. Duronio became involved in community organizations. He cooperated with the AIDS Committee of Windsor in providing care for AIDS patients who could not find a dentist to help them. He worked with the refugee settlement office in Windsor to provide dental screenings and treatment for refugees from all over the world. He designed and operated a dental clinic in Riverview Hospital which was the city’s original chronic care hospital.

In 1983, Pat was one of the dentists who signed the charter, in San Antonio, Texas, of the Academy of Sports Dentistry. He also studied jaw, head and neck pain at the Craniofacial Pain Institute of Washington D.C. and trained in the use of surgical lasers.

Dr. Duronio was an executive member of the Essex County Dental Society and represented Windsor-Essex at the Ontario Dental Association. He also sat on the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Windsor where he Chaired the Development Committee. He was twice the President of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Windsor and went on to help form the National Federation of CIBPA’s. He then became President of that national organization.

He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and was elected President in 2005. With an office in downtown Windsor, he sat on the professional liaison committee of the Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA).

In 2006, Dr. Duronio and his wife, Carol Ann, moved to Lion’s Head, Ontario where he practiced dentistry until 2020. While in Lion’s Head he joined the staff of Grey Bruce Health Services to work in the Lion’s Head Hospital emergency department as needed. He also became a member of the Executive Committee of the Owen Sound and District Dental Society.

Since 2015, Dr. Duronio has been joining an annual trip sponsored by Health Mission Outreach Canada to Paraguay in South America where they provide free dental and medical care. This was a motivator to learn to speak Spanish which he can use comfortably. He also volunteered in the dental department of a temporary hospital on the island of St. Lucia after St. Jude’s Hospital tragically burned to the ground.

Dr. Duronio has a keen interest in the science of dentistry and health care. He is registered with the World Health Organization and avails himself of many of their online courses. He has had several scientific articles published in dental journals which can be found here.

Dr. Duronio and his wife moved to Owen Sound to be closer to their four young grandchildren and he subsequently decided to open an office in Owen Sound to truly become a part of the community.
